  1. Dress for Work Even If You Are Not at The Office

There is no need to dress too formally; in the end, you will be at home. But taking off your pyjamas to put on casual or professional clothing can help get out of bed and get into work mode. And it’s handy when you have to join an unexpected video conference with your colleagues.

  1. Have an Office Space

Do you have a home office space? If you have not passed, you should equip yourself with a standing desk or a standard desk and an office chair with armrests. You can also use any table and chair at home, as long as you are comfortable and well awake.

Do not lie on the bed or the couch all day. You will not be productive, and it could be bad for your back and posture.

  1. Configure Your Connection to The Necessary Online Tools

It would help if you made sure that the applications and software essential to do your work from home have been installed on your computer. These include video conferencing tools and chat applications for communicating with other staff.

  1. Talk to Your Employer About Your Work Schedule If You Care for Your Family

Do you have children or other family members in self-isolation with you at home? Most employers are aware that schools and kindergartens are closed due to concerns raised by COVID-19.

Inform your employer of your family situation and of the fact that you work at home with children.

Let them know you need more time to take care of them. Tell your employer and colleagues when they can reach you. They will be more understanding about your flexible work schedule and family interruptions if you tell them ahead of time.

You should also tell your employer if someone living with you has symptoms of COVID-19. They may ask you to monitor your health for two weeks and keep them informed of any changes.

  1. At Home, Minimize Distractions and What Doesn’t Require Your Immediate Attention

Working remotely can give you the flexibility to do small classes, receive deliveries, or do renovations. However, it’s best to eliminate anything that doesn’t require your immediate attention, like TV, Netflix, pets, and household chores. You must do these activities after work hours.

  1. Make A Schedule and Stick to It

Remote work gives you flexibility in terms of working hours. You are not confined to the traditional “nine to five”. However, you still need to plan your day by scheduling slots for meetings and getting things done. So, don’t forget to take responsibility by making a schedule and sticking to it. Establish the start and end of your workday, and stick to that schedule.
