I was looking around Google for a way to play my WMA music on my iPod when I found tunebite. Tunebite is a cool program that will record wma music as it’s being played and save it as a normal .mp3 format. It can also do this at 4x normal play! WMA is a common music format from music stores like Napster & MSN. The popular iPod cannot play this format. I’m NOT posting this as a way to illegally copy music, but to play music that is legally owned on different portable device. Please see Tunebite’s website for more legal information.

Work is hosting a small regional IT lunching on Nov 3. It will be a chance for 3 different school districts to share what projects they’ve been working on. We will be showing several different projects like our open source spam filter server. I’ll devote a page to a summery of events and ideas to share.
I noticed that because of cost and other reasons the front office does not stock toner or ink cartridges. Normally we order as needed, but I noticed the money savings is mostly lost when we run out and a department can’t wait for the shipment. Next thing I know I’m asked to run down town to by a supplies at a much higher price then online. I understand why we don’t carry stock, it’s expensive, and can be wasteful if we don’t use it before expiration.
So here comes the great idea! HP makes a free program called Web Jet admin. I installed it on our old 400mhz Dell Power edge server, which turned out to be a bad idea. I had to move it to a faster server because it was causing print jobs to fail. Once it was moved to a faster server thing were great. This program will let you monitor all your hp servers from one spot! Not only can you monitor them, you can have the printers email you messages. Without much work I now have it setup when a printer gets low on ink/toner it emails the staff in the front office! You can even customize the email template to include location, printer name, printer type/model, which toner/ink color is low, toner/ink model number, and much more. So instead of the printer running completely out of ink and then the front office staff being told, it will email out it need new supplies about 1-3 weeks before hand. This give the front office time to order more in and it only sets on the shelf for about a week at the most!
This has saved our IT department a lot of headache. You can also set up the program to email you when a printer is opened, paper jams, image drum replacement, errors, and other problems. The web interface is great for seeing printer status, firmware updates, name changes, total pages printed, and more.
Here is a link to Hp’s site. Hope this will help someone as much as it did me. Hp’s Website for Webjet Admin
